I.G.I. Batch Number Index

After 1991, no information of submitters, whether LDS Church members or not, was recorded on the source documentation.  Consequently, the original temple record, as microfilmed, shows little more than what you see on the I.G.I. entry for the individual.

A

Entry generated from LDS Temple sealings.  If sealing date was 1942-1969 the records are stored in the Archive Section of the Family Group Records collection.  Many of these have now been added to the IGI on-line at Family Search.  Do a batch number search on-line at Family Search to find a complete list of all surnames and events submitted by one individual.

C, P, M
(except M17 & M18)

Entries extracted from original source records, such as parish registers, civil registration records, and census.  There are no restrictions on obtaining copies of the original source entry.  C and P entries are drawn from birth or christening records, while M entries are drawn from marriage records.

D

Entries submitted and appear in the Suspended File where ordinances have been delayed for several years.  These batch numbers only appear on Patron Notification letters sent by the Church and are accompanied by a different batch number.  The alternate batch number contained in the letter can be used to trace the original source of the information.

E

Entries extracted from original sources in order to permit proxy baptisms and endowments.  To find the source call number for the source marriage record of an E------ batch entry, in the I.G.I. Batch Number Index locate the corresponding M------ batch number. For example, the source call number for batch E005361 will be shown with the batch M005361.

F

Submitted to the IGI by LDS members and non-members in the form of the old-style Individual Records and Family Group Records.   There is often incomplete and/or incorrect information on the submitted record.  If information was submitted between 1978-1990 the first two digits following the 'F' signify the year in which it was received by the LDS.  If submitted 1987-1990 the first digit after 'F' may be 5 or 6.  Inconsistent numbering as LDS used two formats for Family Group Records.  Caution is urged using these records as neither the LDS, the UGS nor the FHL is responsible for accuracy of information submitted by any of these individuals.

H

Entries are generated by the LDS members for other deceased LDS Church members from the membership records of those deceased members.  All records have not yet been entered onto the I.G.I..  As there was no living descendant of the member to perform the ordinances, there is a 95-year waiting period from a marriage date and 110-year waiting period from a birth or christening date before the deceased member's event record will be indexed.

I

Entries extracted from original sources through the current digitisation of records and the on-line volunteer extraction program.  Use the source call number shown with the on-line entry to view the original record.  One I------ batch number has been assigned to more than one locale on the same film and in many instances the I.G.I. entry shows an incorrect place assigned to the event.  Accordingly, to be certain of the event place the microfilm will have to be viewed.

J

Represents entries of events for males.  Entries extracted from original source records, such as parish registers, civil registration records, and census.  There are no restrictions on obtaining copies of the original source entry.

K

Represents entries of events for females.  Entries extracted from original source records, such as parish registers, civil registration records, and census.  There are no restrictions on obtaining copies of the original source entry.

L

Entries are generated by the LDS from submitted Family Group Records of members and non-members from a computerized temple.  See also batch number T90, below.  The Source Call Number is only available in the restricted access Special Collections at the Family History Library.

M17 & M18

LDS-generated from Temple marriage sealing records.  Place of marriage stated in the I.G.I. entry may be the place where the sealing occurred and not the actual place of the marriage event, which may have even occurred in a different country.  The marriage may have occurred up to 20 years previous to the date given in the I.G.I. entry.

T000001-T000009 & T000150+

Entries drawn from Family Group Records submitted to the LDS by members and non-members of the Church.  These Family Group Records contain information of a deceased member of a submitter's family and are stored in the Archive Section of Family Group Records collection. This group of Family Group Records include no death dates for ancestors or relatives so these documents could not be processed when they were first submitted and had to be placed in a manually-administered 110-year file.

T000010+

LDS-generated entries drawn from Temple Records Index Bureau conversions throughout Central America, Mexico, parts of South America and Italy bearing minimum sufficient information to allow for computer processing.

T000011-T000137

LDS-generated entries drawn from original Temple Records Index Bureau cards.  Copies only available only to LDS Church members who are temple-recommend holders or to those Church members with a letter of permission from the Ward or Stake Bishop.  The index cards are arranged by nation, then alphabetically by name (standardized), and by date of birth or christening.

T5-----

LDS-generated entries for sealings of children to parents.  On the I.G.I., immediately preceding the T5------ entry you will see a closely identical entry but bearing a different batch number. Use the batch number from that other identical entry to find the source of the T5----- entry.

T9-----

Entries are submitted to the LDS in Family Group Record format, which contain information about deceased and living family members.  Family Group Records were originally taken by a living child, sibling, or parent of the person for whom the ordinance was performed who was a member of the LDS Church directly to a temple for ordinance work.  These records are not stored in the Family Group Records collection.  See also the listing for L batch numbers.

T96----

Generated by the Family History Department, Utah to correct erroneous entries contained in Individual Entry and Marriage Entry sheets submitted to them.  To locate the original source record start by ordering the Source Call No. microfilm quoted with the on-line I.G.I. edition. Each sheet or entry on that film will list a source with the original batch and serial number of that entry.

T99----

LDS-generated from Family Group Records, Individual or Marriage Entry sheets and LDS Special Services Temple Department prepared by the Family History Department, Utah for individuals of noble or royal blood, members of the peerage, mediaeval families (defined as being pre-1501), or other requiring other special handling.  If noble, peerage, or mediaeval families are involved, search FHL microfilm 1126128 (part of the Patron ordinance submission sheets, 1969-1991, microfilm group) alphabetically by the husband's surname.  Where there is no surname, find the record by the highest title.  If the title is hyphenated, the record has been filed by the first name of that title, e.g. "Frederich Prince of Anhalt-Dessau" is filed by "Anhalt."  Otherwise, the original source is only available to direct line relatives through Temple Special Services.  Also, if the Source Call No. is SIS, the original source is only available to direct line relatives through Temple Special Services.

T998--- & T9990--

The 50----- batch number is listed together with the related F------ batch on the source call number film, e.g., 5012347 and F512347 are mixed together on the same film.

6000001-6899999

Entries were submitted to the LDS on a Computer diskette.  The original record was created by a submitter using PAF or a similar program.  Therefore, more complete information may also be found on Ancestral File.

69407--
